It takes a certain skill and patience to be able to engage and retain an audience with your writing. So while the blogosphere removes the old barriers to entry in getting yourself noticed, it doesn't necessarily improve the writing skill of the Average Joe I think this all boils down to the fact that not everyone is cut out to write high quality, original content.

This adds value to the article and increases the likelihood that the article will achieve a decent PageRank as well as help out the entire blog. Free content is just simply regurgitated verbiage.
