How Do I Find Advertisers Or Sponsors For My Blog?

Question: I’m having a hard time figuring out who to target as sponsors for my blog. Cause being a small niche I can’t find any competitors to see who is selling ads on their sites. How do you find sponsors for your blog?

One the best ways is to look at your competitors, sure. But if you are in a small niche without many competitors than that method doesn’t work that well.

A good technique is to find magazines in your industry and look for the ads in those magazines then contact the companies one by one and let them know about your excellent blog and niche. Many salespeople do this to drum up new business.

The other approach you might take is to do some searching for relevant key phrases on Google and see who’s buying the paid ads. For example, search for “photography” and see which ads come up, and follow through to their websites and contact them. Here’s a sample email you might send them.

“Hi, I’m Jim from XYZ company. I run a niche blog on photography that reaches your customers. I’m currently looking to sell some sponsorships on my site/blog. Here are the prices and my traffic numbers. Please contact me with any questions. I know my readers will be interested in seeing ads from you.”

Something like that. Make it more personal. Talk about your niche and your passion for that you do. Don’t make it too long though.

Good information. Remember the smaller niches can be the most profitable in the long run. There are plenty of programs on the Internet that will help you find your competitors also.

Those ads are called banner ads. The blogger, in your question, is possibly an affiliate marketer, he or she may belong to an affiliate network.

As mentioned you can get banner ads from Google Adsense, from Commission Junction, LinkShare and other affiliate networks.

Google adsense analyzes your web site and sends target ads based on the search terms that brings people to your blog. That may be why the ads match the content.

Or the blogger you are looking at, used a banner ad from an affiliate network

Hmmm… I find your advice quite useful. Just one question though, what if your blog isn’t ranking well on SERPs and that’s what your potential sponsor is looking for? Since they’d be worrying how you can drive traffic/sales to their site.
