I learnt the hard way – it’s not about web design

By Christian

Everyone seemed to have a website and I wanted one too. No one told me that there are websites that look lovely but make very little money and there are websites which might not look as flashy but generate £000s month in month out to a traditional bricks and mortar business

All this website coding stuff looks so hard to do and I trusted my local designer to deliver what I wanted. In fact he did deliver what I wanted but how was I to know that what I thought I wanted and what was actually needed were very different things.

Allow me to explain my self a little bit. When most people look at a website the first thing they see is the design and the colours. Many web designers were and are very good at the whole design thing.

The problem with this though is that a web site is more than the design and most businesses are sitting on an asset that could be much better utilised to increase profits.

A web site is like salesmanship in a slightly different format.

Web-Design

A web site should ideally;

Attract good customers like a magnet. (Generate Traffic)
Once people land on the web page there needs to be a compelling reason for people to do something. Ideally buy your product or service. (Convert from a looker into a buyer)

The actual mechanics of doing this are not hard to do when you know what’s going on because all you need are the following;

A way to generate traffic. (Drive people to your web pages)

Good writing skills so people know that you deliver a fabulous product or service (Copywriting skills)

A simple mechanism that gives people what they want in the first place. – People who use a search engine like Google are looking for a solution to a problem or information that will lead them to a solution. This is true whether someone needs a service or is looking for a particular product.

Designed in a way that reflects your customers what your customers and clients would expect to see.

Review of a casino site from web design point of view

By Christian

A big shift is underway in online casino web design, and 2014 will be the year that many more online casinos such as http://www.gamingclub.com/au/casino-games engage responsive design.

Already mobile betting is a huge revenue earner for the online casino industry and the current growth in mobile betting is expected to pick up pace in the New Year. Between 2011 and 2013 some operators were reporting a 260% increase.

In the past the approach to mobile casinos has tended to produce an independent mobile website optimised for tablets and smartphones. However there are many drawbacks to this approach, an important one being that it fails to deliver a uniform client experience when clients switch between devices. For instance many mobile casinos provide only a fraction of the games that are available on conventional online casinos.

Web-designing

The “new” approach is to use “responsive” design in which a single online casino is able to adapt its content dynamically according to what kind of device the client is using, whether that might be a laptop, a smartphone, or a tablet. This approach has huge advantages. The client received a much improved experience while the developer need produce and maintain just a single website rather than multiple ones.

The approach is to use CSS media queries to interrogate the browser, determine its width, and serve up content appropriately. That isn’t the only factor, when designing a responsive online casino it is important to address performance issues dictated by the lower data speed on mobile devices, to optimise the performance of buttons and other controls, and to maintain properly scaled images which means much more than just making them larger or smaller.

It is likely that in the future responsive web design will become dominant, but in the interim selecting online casinos that offer this new is going to give you the best online gambling experience independent of the device you are using.
